Every parent wants their child to have an opportunity to reach their full potential!
Our community has made great strides – improving schools and increasing access to quality teachers who are empowered to educate our children and prepare them for the future. But more work needs to be done to close the opportunity gap.
Far too many students in our charter and district schools are not being given the tools they need to succeed in school and in life.
It’s time to CHANGE THE ODDS for Kansas City kids!
The odds right now:
We invite you to attend a series of events to learn more about how to be a champion for Kansas City students.
Let’s change the odds for KC kids!
Our first event was a KCPS school board candidate forum organized and executed by parents. We had excellent turnout for a cold, snowy Saturday morning and want to thank every attendee for their participation.

PARENT POWER LAB:
The Parent Power Lab is an immersive series of five half-day Learning Gatherings and a unique guided Learning Journey to observe a Parent Power organization in action in another city, designed to engage, educate, and activate parents within the geographic boundaries of the Kansas City Public Schools.
Parent Power Lab graduates will be equipped with the fundamentals to organize and lead their own small parent group that will be fully affiliated with a larger parent organizing effort in Kansas City. As a result, the Parent Power Lab will increase the engagement of parents in their child’s education process, increase the voter participation in school board elections, and impact educational policy in a manner that supports the parent voice in the educational space, changing the odds for KC kids.
The Parent Power Lab is a partnership with Change the Odds and Urban Engagement Solutions.
Our first Parent Power Lab cohort convened May 4. They will travel to Washington DC May 16-18 to meet and learn from other parents that are organizing and working toward better quality public education.
If you’re interested in joining a Parent Power Lab cohort, please submit the form below. Thank you!
The first Parent Power Lab cohort begins April 6.
